As from 14th December passengers on the Wimbledon to New Addington route of London Tramlink can enjoy a higher frequency service on Sundays with the introduction of a new service. Whereas previously trams ran every 15 minutes throughout the day this has now been enhanced to every 7/8 minutes between 1000 and 1800.
This service has been planned for a while but its introduction was delayed with work continuing on the double tracking project between Beddington Lane and Mitcham Junction but now this has been completed it has been possible to introduce the higher frequency just in time for the last minute Christmas shopping rush. Before 1000 and after 1800 trams will continue to operate every 15 minutes between Wimbledon and New Addington.
Sharon Thompson, Transport for London’s Director of London Tramlink, said: “We’re pleased to be able to bring these extra services into operation at a time of year when we know it is important for our passengers to have access to weekend shopping destinations. I’m also pleased to say that the increase in Sunday services will be something that passengers will be able to reap the benefits of all year round.”
