More problems for Metrolink

Unfortunately the past week has seen more delays on Manchester Metrolink with the Eccles, Bury and Altrincham lines all seeing problems at some point with not only the
usual tram failures to blame but also overhead line failures.

The start of the week was not a good one for passengers on the Eccles line with delays experienced on both Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd May. On both days the reason for the delays was due to overhead line problems and as a result services were suspended between MediaCityUK and Eccles with all trams from Piccadilly running into MediaCityUK and then back again. Passengers were advised their Metrolink tickets would be accepted onboard the number 33 First bus. It is not known whether the overhead problems experienced on these days were one in the same issue or whether they were unconnected.

On Friday 25th May a tram failed at Brooklands during the afternoon which caused delays for commuters wanting to return home after a hard week at work. Delays were experienced on both the Altrincham and Bury lines whilst the tram was removed back to the depot. Once the tram was moved further delays were experienced by passengers as an attempt was made to reform the service. Again it was one of the T68 trams which failed and TfGM were very keen to mention on their Twitter feed that they are currently in the process of replacing 12 of these and are formulating plans for the replacement of the remaining 20 (including the T68As).
