Whilst its not as long-term as many other examples across tramways in the UK, Edinburgh Trams 262 has now returned to service after a six month absence. And in doing so it has a new look with its previous wrap replaced by a new contract for Square.
262 had last run on 22nd May 2025 when it was involved in a collision on Balfour Street (on the Newhaven extension) with a lorry. After being rescued and returned to Gogar Depot, a full assessment was undertaken to see what damage had been caused and despite initial fears it may need to be sent away for repairs work was able to be completed in Edinburgh.
This took place over the following few months and the tram started mainline testing earlier in November, before it entered service on Saturday 15th November – making its absence just under six months.
When it was last seen out it was carrying a wrap for Capital Radio, but this was removed in June 2025 whilst the tram was still under attention. This had left the tram in the plain white fleet livery, but as is the way in Edinburgh this wouldn’t last and it received a new full wrap before returning to service.
This advert is for Square, who are a point of sale system for restaurants. It is a black based design and is the same style as all other full wraps, which includes window vinyls on the third and fifth sections of the tram.
It becomes the ninth advert to be carried on 262, and the second full wrap after the Capital Radio design. Other advertisers have been C R Smith, Macdonald Hotels/Paul Tamburrini, Spotify, Clearwater Analytics, Ocean Winds, Hard Rock Café and Loaf.
