“Picture in Time” today stays at Beamish but for the first time in this latest series of photo we change trams!
The tram we take a look at this time is Sunderland 16 – an incredibly useful all weather, high capacity tram which also fits nicely in with the local area. Whilst we are now well used to seeing 16 in service at Beamish it wasn’t until 1989 that the body was rescued and then after a major restoration it entered service at Beamish in 2003.
Five years later and we see the tram in operation as it pauses at the Entrance with a clockwise working around the tramway circuit. It’s a very wet day – showing just how useful the tram is on days like that! – and a few more potential passengers are seen just walking down the ramp towards the tram.
