Around the World in Trams: Rhein-Neckar 514

Another edition of “Around the World in Trams” and we head back to Mannheim in Germany.

This week we feature another tram which although running in Mannheim back in 2003, it subsequently left for pastures new and has since been scrapped. The below photo shows 514 (as numbered at the time in the Mannheim fleet) at a stop on Kaiserring with the Maritim hotel seen in the background.

514 was new as 387 in 1962 and was originally classified as a Duewag GT6 before 1992 saw it modernised and redesignated as a GT8NF. It was at this time that it was renumbered 514 and it would remain in Mannheim until 2007 when it was sold on for further use to Lodz in Poland. There it retained the number 514 but would be withdrawn in 2020 and was scrapped in the last month of that year.
