August breaks the record on Edinburgh Trams

Oasis and the festival season have combined to help Edinburgh Trams record their busiest ever month. August 2025 saw nearly 1.5 million passenger journeys recorded whilst four of five busiest ever days for the network were also recorded.

August not only saw the annual Festivals but also the high-profile three sold-out nights of Oasis, with AC/DC also at Murrayfield Stadium and there were Summer Sessions shows from Sam Fender and Chappell Roan at the Royal Highland Centre.

Saturday 9th August turned out to be the busiest day on the network ever with just under 77,000 customer journeys recorded. This beat last year’s day in June when Taylor Swift was performing at Murrayfield – answering the question no-one had asked, are Oasis or Taylor Swift more popular!

Sarah Singh, Edinburgh Trams Head of Service Delivery, said: “This has been a landmark month for us. Edinburgh in August is always special, but the combination of the festival and a full events calendar has seen record-breaking numbers on the tram network.

“I’d like to thank our entire team for their efforts in delivering extra services, managing huge crowds, and keeping the city moving during such an exciting but demanding period – as well as every customer who chose to journey with us this month. It’s fantastic to see so many people making the tram their first choice of travel.”
