After a gap of one day, there are more trackworks taking place on the South Yorkshire Supertram network with a section of line along Middlewood Road being replaced. This is all part of the continued investment in the network by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and will be the last set of work due to take place this summer.
Getting underway on Sunday 17th August the works mean that no trams are running between Hillsborough Interchange and Middlewood. A replacement bus – YE1 – is running to cover the closure whilst Yellow route services running from Meadowhall are being diverted to Malin Bridge, leading double the trams along Holme Lane.

Work has started on the inbound line between the terminus at Middlewood and Catch Bar Lane. In this view the track has already been replaced and work is now being finished.

Replacement bus YE1 is operating to cover the section of tramway between Hillsborough and Middlewood. Part of this route climbs Langsett Avenue which isn’t on a usual bus route and is possibly the steepest road currently seeing buses in Sheffield.

The only public transport vehicle you’ll see at Middlewood until the works end on 29th August will be a bus. This view shows the temporary signage located at Middlewood letting everyone know the stop is closed. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 19th August 2025)
