In Pictures: Blackpool Balloon 708 gets company during Sandtoft Gathering

We take another trip to the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft to see the only fully intact tram on site – Blackpool Balloon 708. As we have featured fairly extensively the tram has been acquired by the Museum to become an eventual Play Tram, but for now is just on display and this has been an isolated existence. But during the Gathering it got a bit of company!

One of the things which has delayed work being able to start in earnest on converting the tram has been the construction of the miniature railway which surrounds the tram. Whilst the railway is not yet ready to be used to carry passengers it is able to be used as a model railway, here 66 789 passes with a single carriage in tow. The tram is also joined by three buses – Doncaster Corporation AEC Regal III 22, Felix Motors AEC Reliance 41 and Doncaster Leyland PD2/1 94.

Another shot of 708 with its friends. We also see that it was surrounded on all sides by plenty more rubber tyred vehicles too. (All Photographs by Trevor Hall, 27th July 2025)
