In Pictures: Tram replacement services in Sheffield

As we’ve previously reported, the latest set of trackworks on the South Yorkshire Supertram network took place on Langsett Road between 24th and 30th May 2025. The work meant that no trams ran between Cathedral and either Malin Bridge or Middlewood and led to a bus replacement service being used – including the return to Sheffield’s streets of the bendy bus! But it wasn’t all about the bendy bus as these photos from Luke Goldsworthy show.

A number of different bus companies were used to operate the replacement service which included Ilkeston based Littles Travel. The bus seen here is an ADL Enviro400. Its operating on the BL1 service which is the replacement for the Blue route. Note the handwritten note in the windscreen to let would-be passengers know that it’s a BL1. The bus is on High Street in Sheffield City Centre.

Another BL1 bus – this one from the TM Travel fleet – is seen on the opposite side of the road as we see tram 119 heading alongside High Street on its way to Cathedral where its journey will terminate.

The YE1 service to Middlewood (Yellow route) was where you would be able to find the bendy buses. These were from City stable and this one in a simple light blue livery was once operated by First York. It is a Mercedes Benz Citaro O530G. The location is Middlewood.
