Back to East Berlin we go for another “Around the World in Trams”.
Rekowagen 217 089-6 and two trailers are seen approaching the Alt-Schmöckwitz terminus from Köpenick. 20th May was local election day in the DDR and the flag-bedecked building in the background was a polling station. Perhaps unsurprisingly the list of the National Front, a coalition of government-approved parties, received 99.82% support countrywide, though on this occasion opposition was highest in Berlin itself, where 0.43% voted against.
Of interest in this shot is also the brightly coloured red lorry along with various cars, including a couple which appear to be following the tram along the road.
