“Around the World in Trams” continues in Oslo for this latest image.
Taken in 2006 this photo shows another of the Duewag SL 79/1 trams which were built in 1982. As mentioned last week these were the start of a new era for the tramway, being ordered just after the decision to abandon the entire tramway was reversed by the council. 10 were built to an exclusive design for Oslo and they would continue to operate until relatively recently, with withdrawals starting in late 2023.
The tram in this photo is 107 – with the Radison Blu Plaza Hotel dominating the scene on the back right – which is working a route 19 service. 107 was withdrawn in February 2024 and was scrapped soon after. At the time of writing only one of the class remained serviceable.
