Manchester Metrolink Then & Now: St Werburgh’s Road

For the last time this year we are looking at just what was there before the trams came along with this edition of “Manchester Metrolink Then & Now”.

We are at the same location as last time – north of the stop at St Werburgh’s Road as we see how things have changed over 15 years with part of the phase 3 Metrolink extensions having arrived.

This photo was taken on 5th March 2009 and is looking south towards where the St Werburgh’s Road stop is now located with Didsbury beyond that. As we can see there is a path all the way along this side of the what would become the trackbed.

2nd May 2024 and we now have a tramway running through the middle of this location. Whereas in the “Then” photo the footpath continued along the right hand side it now comes to a quick halt with anyone wishing to walk down towards the tramstop having to cross the tramway and do so on the left.
