Picture in Time: Blackpool Railcoach 678

Just before we move away from Blackpool again, we return with another snowy image in this edition of “Picture in Time”.

On this visit to Fleetwood, the photographer was surprised by the variety of trams and we now see our third class of tram as Ex-Towing Railcoach 678 approaches Ash Street from Blackpool working route 8. The slanting FLEETWOOD VIA PROMENADE destination blind adds to the scene with the tram still enjoying a trolley pole and with roof windows, half green/half cream livery and Corporation crests.

In the background we can see Fergies Buy Sell and Swop Shop on the corner of Radcliffe Road and Belmont Road which is now just a private home although the adjacent shop is now Trimmers Gents Hair Stylist.

And its not only Fergies which is no longer in existence as the same can be said of the tram as well. Originally preserved along with the Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust collection at Wyre Dock it was scrapped after component retrieval in June 2023.
