In Pictures: More trams running the Supertram revised service

Things may have now returned to normal on the South Yorkshire Supertram system after the conclusion of the city centre trackwork but for a week at the end of May and just into June a special service was operating which saw a fourth colour route added into the mix. Stuart Cooke went out onto the network again on Sunday 2nd June to capture some more images of trams heading to unusual places in different locations.

The trackworks saw rail replaced in the city centre and mean that no trams served Fitzalan Square, Castle Square, Cathedral, City Hall and West Street. Starting on 25th May the work continued until 2nd June with normal services resuming again from Monday 3rd June.

During the work the following services ranL

  • BLUE – Malin Bridge to University of Sheffield
  • YELLOW – Middlewood to University of Sheffield
  • PURPLE – Herdings Park to Cricket Inn Road (some journeys extended to Cathedral)
  • TRAM-TRAIN – Rotherham Parkgate to Sheffield Station
  • GREEN – Halfway to Meadowhall

118 has just left Granville Road with a Purple route service which rather than running into the city centre and terminating at Cathedral is diverted straight across the delta junction to Cricket Inn Road.

Its not easy to actually capture the route colours or destinations on the trams but this is 112 approaching Granville Road with a Green route service which will run direct to Meadowhall.

Carbrook is on the route to Meadowhall (and is the home to IKEA) and that is where we move to for this photo. Citylink 399 207 is running a Green route service to Meadowhall.

117 departs from Sheffield Station with a service for Halfway. Again this was a Green route service.

The revised service on the Blue and Yellow routes between University of Sheffield and Shalesmoor involved wrong line working as we see here through the cab of a tram. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 2nd June 2024)
