Back to fleet livery for Metrolink trams

Over the past few weeks its been a case of fleet livery disappearing and be replaced by advertising vinyls on Manchester Metrolink but this time we flip the story over as it’s the complete reverse! In this article we feature 3023, 3028 and 3075 which have lost their adverts and are now back in yellow and silver.

3023 had received adverts for Maybelline in February and as well as the usual bodyside vinyls it also received small ads across where the fleet number is usually held on the front of the tram. This meant that additional fleet numbers were added on the coupler cover.

Now with all the vinyls removed, the originally applied fleet numbers have been rediscovered and the revised positioned numbers are also still in place so there can be very little doubt what the number of the tram is at the moment and it may seem you’re seeing double!

Meanwhile, 3028 has also gone back to fleet livery. This tram was previously advertising Asahi Super Dry with those ads having been added in March.

The final tram to return to fleet colours is 3075. Previously advertising Procore (as from January 2024) this marks the first time its had a period out of adverts since July 2021. Since then its carried ads for Trafford Centre (three designs until July 2023), Chester Zoo (July-October 2023), Caudalie (October 2023-January 2024) and its last ad for Procore.

This is definitely 3023 which just leaves St Peter’s Square heading for Bury with its double fleet numbers.

In addition to 3023 returning to fleet livery, 3106 has returned to service after a month or so out of action. This tram was involved in a collision with a coach on 5th March at Piccadilly Gardens. Its seen here at Victoria. (Photographs x2 by Reece Hughes, 12th April 2024)
