Brighton 53 Open Days for 2024 announced

There will be a chance to see behind the scenes and the latest progress on the restoration of Brighton 53 in a special Open Weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May.

Brighton 53 is being restored by the Brighton Tram 53 Society and chances to see progress on its restoration are rare so this is one of the unique chances to see this tram. 53 was built in 1937 but would only have a two year operating career before its home tramway closed for the last time. Having been sold on for use as a shed it managed to survive and even after its time as a shed ended it would end up in storage until the Society was formed with the aim of restoring its back to its former glory.

Since it was formed in 2010 the Society have been working on the tram and although there is only a small group of active volunteers good progress has been made on its restoration.

The Open Weekend will take place on both Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May between 1000 and 1600 and there is no need to book. As well as the chance to see the tram there will also be tram items for sale and free tea and biscuits.

If you want directions to where the tram is housed please contact the Brighton Tram 53 Group by emailing tram53project@yahoo.com or through their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Brightontram53society.
