Manchester Metrolink Engineering Works: Sunday 25th February 2024

There will be no trams running through Victoria on Sunday 25th February to allow for further engineering works to take place in connection with the broken rail discovered last month.

As a result of these works all services which usually run via Victoria will be altered, affecting services on the Bury, Airport and Oldham and Rochdale lines.

The following services will run on Sunday 25th February:

  • Bury-Queens Road
  • Rochdale Town Centre-Monsall
  • East Didsbury-Exchange Square
  • Manchester Airport-Cornbrook
  • The Trafford Centre-Deansgate-Castlefield
  • Altrincham-Etihad Campus
  • Ashton-under-Lyne-Eccles via Media City UK

There will be replacement buses running at a 15 minute frequency:

  • Queens Road-Victoria/Shudehill/Piccadilly Gardens/Piccadilly
  • Central Park/Monsall/Victoria

Speaking about the works, Head of Metrolink for TfGM, Danny Vaughan, said: “Safety is our top priority and following the removal of some damaged rail at Victoria, further engineering works are needed on Sunday. We apologise for the inconvenience and will have replacement buses running for people coming in on the Bury or Rochdale and Oldham lines and wanting to get into the city.”

Its not clear whether this will fix the problem and allow full services to resume as the information on the TfGM website says that “services are expected to return to normal on Monday” – whether this is the pre-cracked rail normal or the more recent normal isn’t stated.
