Stop by Stop London Trams: Beckenham Junction & Elmers End lines – Beckenham Road

Having started another series of “Stop by Stop” last week with a look at stops on the London Trams Beckenham Junction and Elmers End lines we continue here as we set off on our way from Beckenham Junction.

After departing from Beckenham Junction towards central Croydon we soon start running on a single track section. There isn’t room for double tracks here as the railway line between Beckenham Junction and Crystal Palace (served by Southern Railway services) takes up the remainder of the formation. The first stop we come to is Beckenham Road; there was once a railway station here although that was closed in 1860 so it can’t exactly be said that this is a replacement for that, coming as it did 140 years later! Single track means a single platform and this is served by trams heading in both directions. The stop has a shelter, passenger information displays and validators.
