Stop by Stop London Trams: Beckenham Junction & Elmers End lines – Beckenham Junction

We return with another series of “Stop by Stop” and head to the London Trams network (originally Croydon Tramlink of course) featuring stops on the Beckenham Junction and Elmers End lines. In this series we aim to feature photos at each stop on UK tramways taking a look at the immediate surroundings.

The first part of this series on London Trams will be concentrating on the Beckenham Junction and Elmers End lines; we start off at the Beckenham Junction terminus. Opening to trams on 23rd May 2000, whilst the stop provides an interchange to national rail services the tramstop is actually located outside of the station so it requires a short walk and through the railway station barriers in order to change transport modes here. The stop is a typical island platform with tracks either side and is served by trams from Wimbledon on the current timetable. Ticket machines disappeared from the system several years ago so the platform here features validators for Oyster cards or payment cards along with passenger information displays, a help point, shelters and seating.

2543 is caught on camera in this photo as it sits at the far platform. Beckenham Junction railway station is beyond the tram and in the distance we can see where the tramway goes into single track as it will run alongside the railway to Crystal Palace for a distance.

Then we see 2558 at the other platform. We’re looking the other direction now with the Beckenham Junction station building seen on the left of the shot. (Both Photographs by Gareth Prior, 21st September 2021)
