Edinburgh Trams nominated at Chamber of Commerce Awards

With record breaking passenger numbers being recorded following the opening of the Newhaven extension, Edinburgh Trams is up for more awards having been nominated in a couple of categories at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Awards.

Edinburgh Trams are up for the “Large Business of the Year” and the “High Growth Business of the Year” awards at the prestigious ceremony which looks to celebrate the success of local businesses over the past year.

Lea Harrison, Managing Director at Edinburgh Trams, said: “To be recognised in two different categories at these high-profile awards reflects the positive impact the expanded tramway is having on the city. All of our colleagues can be proud of the part they have played in the business’ story to date. Undoubtedly, the network is already helping to re-establish the city’s vibrant economy while laying the foundations for its future growth and prosperity.”

The news of these nominations comes after a successful year in awards which included being named Scotland’s Number One Public Transport Operator at the Scottish Transport Awards whilst it was also named as “Tramway (Modern) of the Year” at the recent British Trams Online Tram of the Year contest.

The past year has seen the network expand with 3 miles of line to Newhaven opening in June which saw the team at Edinburgh Trams expand to over 290. During the Festival season last August the network enjoyed its busiest ever month with around 1.2 million journeys recorded and the free all-night trams at Hogmanay saw an average of 20,000 passengers take advantage.

The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Awards take place in February.
