In Pictures: Tram free Newhaven

Despite a statement from Edinburgh Trams released last week saying works to repair the overhead issue at Newhaven were “set to start soon” on a visit at the start of the week commencing 18th December there was no evidence that this work had got underway.

You’ll remember that since Friday 24th November no trams have been able to serve Newhaven due to an overhead line issue. After investigations the source of the problem was discovered and a bespoke part had to be manufactured to allow a repair to be undertaken. It had been confirmed that this part was now available and that work would be starting to allow trams to run between Ocean Terminal and Newhaven again – but no news on what that may be for definite.

With Edinburgh Trams due to run a split service over Hogmanay this year, including between Picardy Place and Newhaven it looks fairly vital that the line is fully reopened as Newhaven has space for the stabling of trams which is presumably important to allow this service to be run.

Until trams do return to Newhaven there remains ticket acceptance on Lothian Buses services 16 and Skylink 200 between Ocean Terminal and Newhaven.
