Picture in Time: Blackpool OMO 8

We have time for another photo from Blackpool in 1978 as “Picture in Time” continues today.

Blackpool. Tram. Tower. Three things which have gone together in photos many, many, many times over the years. The trams may have changed but the scene is unmistakably Blackpool. Its April 1978 and OMO 8 is on North Promenade with a service for Fleetwood. The Tower looms over the tram and almost looks as if it as an extension to the tram’s trolley tower!

Carrying the red and white livery the tram retains a trolley and has roof advert boxes. Its not just the tram which is a by product of another age though, the end advert for Radio Rentals also tells of a time when people used to rent their domestic appliances including televisions rather than buying them outright.

8 is another tram which is owned by the Fylde Transport Trust and is stored at Rigby Road Depot having last run in 2010.
