Services on Manchester Metrolink were disrupted on two occasions in early-mid September after separate incidents led to changes to the service. The first saw a car collide with a tram whilst the second was down to a Police incident close to Piccadilly.
It was Friday 8th September that the first incident occurred when a car collided with a tram on Mosley Street. From photos on social media it looks like a car had pulled out from one of the side streets along the road colliding with the tram shortly after 0730.
As a result of the collision services were suspended between Market Street and St Peter’s Square. Some services were diverted on 2CC via Exchange Square to Victoria to allow services to continue but it wasn’t possible for trams to travel towards Piccadilly from St Peter’s Square. Fortunately, this was fairly short-lived with the car removed by 0800 but there did remain residual delays.
Two days later, 10th September, and no trams could run via Piccadilly Station after a Police incident close to the railway station. The incident led the Police to put a cordon in place which didn’t allow trams to run through the station. Originally reported at 0200 due to concern’s for a woman’s welfare it was just before 1000 that the cordon was lifted and trams could resume.
During this second incident there were no trams on the Ashton line, Altrincham services were diverted to Victoria, Bury services ran to Deansgate-Castlefield and those from Weaste (the line to Eccles remains closed for works) were diverted to Crumpsall.
