Performance down again on Tyne and Wear Metro

The latest performance statistics for the Tyne and Wear Metro have been posted at stations across the network and once again it doesn’t paint a particularly positive picture as the all important percentage figure is on the decrease again – both from the same four weeks in 2022 and the previous period this year.

The number shown on this poster is 80% which covers the four weeks between 28th May and 24th June 2023. When you compare that with 2022 the number was at 89% whilst the four weeks previous to this in 2023 was at 87%. No reasons are given for the reduction in performance although as reported extensively there have been challenges with keeping the old fleet of trains on the road.

As well as half the poster being given over to advertising ticket promotions it also gives details of passenger satisfaction. This is from a survey undertaken during May 2023 which tells us (out of 10):

  • Overall satisfaction – 7.5
  • Cleanliness – 7.2
  • Information – 7.5
  • Safety and comfort – 7.0
  • Staff availability – 5.7
  • Station equipment – 7.3
  • Ticketing – 7.2

The survey sees around 2000 Metro passengers asked for their opinions.
