In Pictures: More construction images from Birmingham Eastside

We recently brought you news of progress on construction and demolition work on the planned West Midlands Metro Birmingham Eastside extension with buildings having been demolished and track continuing to be laid. In this latest article we return to the extension to see more of the construction progress as track continues to be laid at both ends of the route. The photographer is Ken Jones.

Whereas last time out we saw the track going down at the city centre end of the line this time we go to High Street Deritend at the far end of the line. As we’ve seen before this end of the line will definitely not be seeing any trams for quite some time as it is beyond the Curzon Street HS2 station around which construction work can’t really get underway until the HS2 work is completed. But despite that good progress is being made with the installation of tracks, including a crossover as well as overhead poles all in evidence.

Deritend where on the left in the mid distance we can see the tracks being laid with grey overhead poles to this side of the line.

A view from the other end of this section of track allows us to get a good view of the crossover in place. Whereas at the other end of the line most of the track has been encased in concrete it remains exposed here. (Both Photographs by Ken Jones, 12th July 2023)
