Out and About: Tram-Trains in Sheffield City Centre

Its time for another visit to the centre of Sheffield as we take a look at a couple of Tram-Trains in operation – both of which have only returned to action this year after a period out of use.

As regular followers of the Supertram network will be aware the Citylink Tram-Trains are split into two distinctive groups – those that can be used on the Tram-Train route to Rotherham Parkgate and those which can be used on the full conventional tramway. Up until its return to service 399 205 had been one of those in the second group but after work to repair the vehicle it has received the tram-train wheel profiles and is now in that sub-fleet. On its first day back in service we feature 399 205 here at Cathedral waiting for departure time with a service to Rotherham Parkgate.

On the other hand 399 206, which was also returned to service in April 2023, has remained one of those which can only be used on the conventional tramway. This photo was taken a week or so after its return and on this day it was working the Blue route and we see it approaching Cathedral on the way to Halfway.
