Major disruption in Nottingham

Nottingham Express Transit services have suffered over the past two days, firstly with a major overhead fault at Bulwell and then a police incident in the city centre leading to a complete service suspension.

The first incident saw Citadis 232 hit an overhead pole at Bulwell on the early evening of Monday 12th June. It is not clear how the tram came to hit the pole with a spokesperson from Nottingham Express Transit stating that the issue was not being linked to the stormy weather in the area. Passengers were evacuated from the tram and no injuries were reported.

The incident happened just before 1700 and meant that no trams were able to run between Wilkinson Street and Hucknall although the Phoenix Park service continued to run as normal (so there did remain trams operating between Wilkinson Street and Highbury Vale.

The severity of the damage meant that NET were expecting it to take 48 hours to complete repairs with ticket acceptance in place on buses whilst this happened.

A full investigation into what caused the problem has been launched.

Then early on Tuesday 12th June the complete network was suspended because of a high-profile police incident in Nottingham City Centre. This is the extensively reported triple murder investigation which was launched after three bodies were discovered in the early hours and with road closures in place it wasn’t possible for trams to run through the area. Again, more ticket acceptance was in place on local bus services.
