Around the World in Trams: Gothenburg 419 & 424

Today “Around the World in Trams” remains in the Swedish city of Gothenburg as we continue our look at some of the trams in service back in 2011.

The tram fleet in Gothenburg is fairly varied with trams still in use from the 1970s right up until more modern Flexity trams which were introduced from 2019 and of which more are due to enter service soon. The oldest operational trams in the fleet now are Hagglund M29 class, the first examples of which were introduced in 1969. These were joined by the ASEA/MGB M31s in the mid-1980s before 2004 saw the first of the AnsaldoBreda Sirio trams enter service. It was 2019 that the first of the Bombardier Flexity Swift trams ran in Gothenburg.

It is two of the AnsaldoBreda Sirio trams that we see in the below photos – 419 and 424. 419 was introduced to service in 2007 with 424 following in 2008. The two trams are on different routes in this photo – 419 is on route 2 (Hogsbortorp-Molndal) and 424 is working a route 6 service (Lansmansgarden-Kortedala, which is the longest of the routes on the network).
