In Pictures: Failed tram causes a tram jam in Sheffield City Centre!

When things are going according to plan on the Supertram system in Sheffield you may on occasions see two or three trams at the same time but at times of disruption they soon build up and you can see a tram jam! That is what happened on Wednesday 7th December when a tram failed in the city centre leading to a queue of trams and some passengers having to disembark with a tram between stops.

This sequence of photos starts at Cathedral where Citylink 399 203 is stood at the platform wanting to depart for Rotherham Parkgate with a Tram Train service to Rotherham Parkgate. Another Citylink waits behind on the Yellow route.

Between Castle Square and Fitzalan Square was where the action (or lack of action!) was. 124 is at the rear of a queue of three with it already being out of service as shown on the destination screen.

106 is at the front of the three trams and is seen here just before the road crossing leading to Fitzalan Square stop. It was running a service to Herdings Park.

106 is clearly going no further as passengers are allowed to get off with the assistance of the conductor. (All Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 7th December 2022)
