Sunderland Station – served by both trains operated by Northern and Tyne and Wear Metro services – is currently undergoing something of a revamp. Work started earlier this year and will see the station transformed as part of a £26 million project.
The southern entrance to the station has been closed to allow this stage of works to take place with all travellers being guided towards using the northern entrance. This has also meant that the south end of platforms 3/4 are closed with the Metros instead using the north end platforms 1/4.But with Northern services only hourly this isn’t causing any major issues to the reliability of the Metro service.
The whole project to build a new station building is due to be completed by 2024.
