In Pictures: Metrolink 2003 named

Manchester Metrolink T68A 2003 has become the latest tram on the system to receive a name following the application of “Dave Hansford” vinyls. Dave is one of the longest serving drivers on Metrolink and has recently retired. He first became a member of staff before the system opened in 1992 and held a number of operations positions but in recent years he had reverted to full-time driving. It is hoped that the name will remain in situ until 2003 is withdrawn from service which it is now thought will be towards the end of this year.

  1. Mike Norris says:

We Will all wish Dave Hansford a long & happy retirement then.
Noted that he tried and then vacated the hotter seats ( ie not driving.)
Does anyone else remember the slightly built Jamaican driver, who started
also in 1992, he had a rather large cushion to sit on to be able to see out of the windscreen, but will always be remembered for his announcements
( this is in pre electronic displays on the T68’s ) of ”Next station stop is
Besses over the barn – DOORS on the RIGHT !! )
Those were simple days, one route, no complicated junctions, no TMS
and generally a far better service than is experienced today.
As I write these words, I note that Metrolink is already apologising on their
web page for inevitabe delays tomorrow (Monday 5th ) around Victoria – Intending Passengers Be Warned !!
