“Trams &” is back today and we head to one of the best places to catch images of trams along with some other form of transport – Beamish.
This photo gives us three vehicles for the price of one as we have two trams and a bus all in the frame at the entrance to the museum. The tram interest is provided by two of the regular performers on the tramway circuit: Newcastle 114 and Oporto 196. The open top Newcastle car is working on the clockwise circuit whist the Portuguese single decker in the attractive South Shields livery is running anti-clockwise.
The two trams are joined by Darlington bus no. 4. This is a Daimler CVG5 which was the second Daimler bus to be purchased by Beamish with a view to running them into the new 1950s town once that was completed. As things have turned out both buses (the other being a Daimler CV6G from Rotherham) have been used extensively on the current museum circuit giving plenty of extra capacity to move visitors around at busy times.
