Crich to mark 60 years since the closure of Glasgow’s tram system

On 4th September 1962 the once extensive Glasgow Corporation Tramway system closed its final route. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of this, the Crich Tramway Village will be running and displaying trams connected to the Glasgow system over a four day period from 1st September to 4th September.

The operating fleet at Crich currently includes two trams which both ran in Glasgow – and they will both be taking part in the commemoration of the closure of the tramway:

  • Glasgow 22 – will be in operation daily between Thursday 1st and Sunday 4th September (driver training on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th)
  • Liverpool 869 – due to run on Saturday 3rd September (the tram was purchased by Glasgow in 1955 where it ran as 1055 until June 1960)

In addition Glasgow 1282 will be displayed outside the depots on Sunday 4th September.
