Strike dates announced for London Tramlink

Two 48 hour strikes have been announced on London Tramlink following the recent ballot of ASLEF members. The strikes are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 28th/Wednesday 29th June and Wednesday 13th/Thursday 14th July.

The strike action has been called because of an ongoing dispute between members of ASLEF and Tram Operations Limited (operator of Tramlink) over pay. The last pay deal expired more than six month ago and since then no new deal has been forthcoming meaning that staff working on Tramlink are subject to a pay freeze.

In the ballot giving the union the mandate to go on strike, only one ASLEF member voted against it.

The two strikes will start at 0001 on the first day and run through until 2359 on the second day.

If agency staff were to be deployed as suggested may be the case in current media reports, then it’s to be hoped that thorough training is first organised, especially in the light of the Sandilands tragedy.
