Disruption on the Eccles line after car crashes onto tracks

Manchester Metrolink services to Eccles saw major disruption on the evening of Wednesday 9th March after a car crashed onto the tracks at Harbour City. With the car coming to a rest against an overhead support pole there was an immediate suspension of services between MediaCityUK and Pomona.

The car – a black Mercedes – was reported as having left the road at around 2030 having been involved in an accident with a van, crossing the pavement going through a bollard and then coming to a rest against a centre overhead pole at the Harbour City stop. The fire service attended the scene to assist with a rescue and removal of the vehicle.

During the disruption services from Eccles only ran as far as MediaCityUK with no service from there to Pomona. Trams from Ashton-under-Lyne were combined with the Trafford Park line so that they ran Ashton to The Trafford Centre.
