Stop by Stop Blackpool Tramway: West Drive

We start the final leg of our journey on the Blackpool Tramway as we continue northbound to Fleetwood in “Stop by Stop” (although there will be a couple of extras to follow at some point in the future once the Blackpool North Railway Station opens). The first of 13 stops on this leg is West Drive.

Until we reach Fleetwood the rest of the tram route is segregated from other traffic although there are numerous road crossings for the trams to negotiate on their way. The first of these is immediately after departure from our previous stop at Cleveleys with a signalled crossing over York Avenue. There’s a crossover just the other side of the road and we then reach the rather cramped stop at West Drive.  There are no shelters on either platform here and very narrow platforms although there are information panels and lighting.

With the cramped conditions at the stop both of our shots of trams at West Drive are seen just to the north of the stop. In this photo we see 016 in advert for Pretty Little Thing.com approaching the stop bound for Starr Gate. The stop is just behind the photographer.

On the northbound track having just left West Drive this view shows 014 having just crossed West Drive itself when on its way to Fleetwood Ferry. (All Photographs by Gareth Prior, 25th September 2020)
