In Pictures: Blackpool extension overhead in place up to the terminus

We may not now be seeing major progress each day in the construction work for the Blackpool Tramway extension along Talbot Road but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening as there has still been some significant work taking place over the past few days as shown in this latest photographic update from Tony Armitage.

The major headline is that all poles and the overhead wire now seems to be in place all the way from the junction with the Promenade tramway at Talbot Square up to the terminus on the old Wilko’s site. This has included a new feeder cable being installed at Talbot Square. Up at Wilko’s it looks as if there is just one frog to be installed to complete the overhead work.

On the current Promenade tramway there has also been further single-line working this week with more work taking place in the points to the extension. This has seen the northbound stops used by trams heading in both directions between Cabin and North Pier from 0800 to 1600 each day this week.

The new feeder cable being installed in Talbot Square. The single direction platform for trams heading up to the station is seen on the left.

The old Wilko’s site and looking along the tracks to the scissors crossover with poling and wiring now in place.

A view towards the terminus where we see the poles and overhead wires in place. The hotel and restaurant are in the background.

  1. Nigel Pennick says:

It looks like the terminus crossover frog remains to be added.

  2. John1 says:

It has been the Northbound line and Northbound stops in use not South. despite being told this Blackpool Transport have continued to put out the incorrect information all week.

    • Gareth Prior says:

I gave up trying to work out what Blackpool Transport’s website was trying to say when it reckoned there was normal service at Cliffs Hotel but not at Gynn Square or Cabin. But thanks for the correction, I’ll correct the article.
