In Pictures: Latest from Blackpool’s construction

We again head to the Fylde Coast in this article as we take a look at recent progress on the construction of the Blackpool Tramway extension along Talbot Road to Blackpool North Railway Station. As we’ve come to expect there are two areas of work – down at Talbot Square where overhead wiring is being installed and up at the former Wilko’s site where there is tracklaying for the final section of tramway towards the terminus.

This spider’s web of wiring is seen at Talbot Square where the current Prom line meets the new extension. We are looking south towards the southbound North Pier stop with the south curve seen disappearing to the left hand side.

Meanwhile, at the former Wilko’s site work is continuing on the track installation. In this image we look towards the scissors crossover. Concrete has been poured up to that location with it still be put down further along.

Another look into the worksite. With the concrete now in place the track gauge contraptions have now been removed in this section. (Photographs x4 by Tony Armitage, 17th August 2021)

24 hours later and another frog has now been installed.

Track has now been laid at the actual terminus but is not yet connected up as there remains built up access for the workmen.
