Picture in Time: Blackpool OMO 4

As last week we are featuring a Blackpool tram during 1984 in this edition of “Picture in Time”. This time it is one of the OMO cars.

This photo is taken as OMO 4 rounds the Metropole Hotel on 8th July 1984 with a service which will go all the way to Starr Gate. Although not clear in this image the tram is in the Red and White livery at this time and as well as the “Pay as you Enter” signs and Corporation crests has two roof advert boards either side of the trolley tower. It must be a fairly warm summer’s day in Blackpool as the majority of the saloon windows are open.

4 has started out life as English Electric Railcoach 220 (renumbered 608) and entered service in October 1972. It had less than a year left in service when this photo was taken as it would be withdrawn in March 1985 before succumbing the cutters torch in the first month of 1987.
