Christmas and New Year services 2019/20

Christmas is a time to spend with your family but what happens if you want to do something a bit different? Well, you could always go for a ride or take some photos of trams around the country couldn’t you?! If you do don’t forget that revised services operate across the British Isles between Christmas and New Year and the below one stop guide gives you a flavour of what is operating when. The service pattern follows previous years with no service anywhere on Christmas Day, Blackpool NOT running on Boxing Day and New Years Day seeing no service in either Blackpool or on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Blackpool Tramway

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal service with last tram from Starr Gate at 2015 and from Fleetwood Ferry at 2115

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – NO SERVICE

Friday 27th to Monday 30th December – Normal service

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Normal service with last tram from Starr Gate at 2015 and from Fleetwood Ferry at 2115

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – NO SERVICE

Docklands Light Railway

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Saturday service last trains from around 2230

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Trains running every 10 minutes from 0830 to 0030. Saturday service between Stratford and Canary Wharf from 0930.

Friday 27th December – Saturday service.

Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th December – Normal service

Monday 30th December – Saturday service

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service until 0030 and then a 15 minute service from 0030 to 0800. Travel is free 2345 to 0430.

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Saturday service from 0800. Normal finish times.

Edinburgh Trams

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal service until 2100. Last full route tram from York Place to Edinburgh Airport at 2158, last full route tram from Edinburgh Airport to York Place at 2114. Later departures (2114-2238) from Edinburgh Airport will terminate at Edinburgh Gateway.

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th (Boxing Day) to Sunday 29th December – Normal service

Monday 30th December – Normal weekday service until 1800 when trams will only run between Edinburgh Airport and West End. The last full route service from Edinburgh Airport to York Place will depart at 1710 and from York Place to Edinburgh Airport at 1752.

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Normal weekday service between Edinburgh Airport and West End only. Between midnight and 0500 free night trams will run every 20 minutes.

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Normal weekday service with trams running full route to York Place from 0930. The first full route service from Edinburgh Airport to York Place will depart at 0933 and from York Place to Edinburgh Airport at 1014.

London Tramlink

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – A Saturday service will run until 1800 with a 15 minute frequency between 1800 and 2000 and a 20 minute frequency from 2000 until normal last tram

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Sunday service

Friday 27th December – Saturday service

Saturday 28th to Sunday 29th December – Normal service

Monday 30th December – Saturday service

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service throughout day. Between 2345 and 0430 on New Year’s Day travel will be free. A special all night service will run every 30 minutes between Wimbledon and Beckenham Junction/New Addington.

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Sunday service

Luas

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Last tram at 2000

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Sunday service between 0900 and 2330

Friday 27th to Saturday 28th December – Saturday service

Sunday 29th December – Sunday service

Monday 30th December – Saturday service

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service plus Night Luas service on both Red and Green lines (Red line services approximately hourly between 0100 and 0300, Green line every 30 minutes 0020 to 0300)

Wednesday 1st (New Year’s Day) January 2020 – Sunday service

Manchester Metrolink

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal service with last trams departing the City at approximately 2100

Wednsday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Saturday service between 0700 and midnight with extra services for Manchester United match. Piccadilly Station stop will only be accessible from Fairfield Street.

Friday 27th & Saturday 28th December – Normal service

Sunday 29th December –Sunday service with extra services for Manchester City match. Replacement bus service will run between Newton Heath & Moston and Exchange Square.

Monday 30th December – Normal service.

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service with last trams leaving Manchester City Centre at approximately 0200

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Sunday service with extra services for Manchester City match.

Nottingham Express Transit

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal service

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Sunday service

Friday 27th to Monday 30th December – Normal service

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Normal service until 2330 when there will be no trams between Royal Centre and Nottingham Station. Full services resume at 0030 with trams to all destinations until approximately 0120.

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Sunday service

Stagecoach Supertram

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Saturday timetable with service finishing between 1900 and 2000

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Special service will run every 20 minutes between 0630 and 2100 from Meadowhall to Halfway/Middlewood. No service to Herdings Park, Malin Bridge or Rotherham Parkgate.

Friday 27th & Saturday 28th December – Saturday service

Sunday 29th December – Sunday service

Monday 30th December – Saturday service

Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday timetable with service finishing between 1900 and 2000

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Special service will run Meadowhall-Middlewood, Halfway-Cathedral and Rotherham Parkgate-Cathedral between approximately 0800 and 2000.

Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd January – Saturday service

Tyne & Wear Metro

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal service

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Normal service. Sunderland will only be served by stopping trains between 0715 and 2020.

Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st December – Normal service

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – NO SERVICE

West Midlands Metro

Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal service

Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Sunday service

Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st December – Normal service

Wednesday 1st January 2020 (New Year’s Day) – Sunday service
