Consultation launched for Wythenshawe Transport Interchange

The latest public consultation related to Manchester Metrolink has been launched, this one being for a new transport interchange in Wythenshawe which will be part of the Airport extension of Metrolink – due to open in summer 2016.

It is planned that the current bus station in the town will be relocated to a new site off Poundswick Lane next to Wythenshawe Forum where it will be linked with a Metrolink stop. It will offer a range of improved services including modern, covered waiting areas, better passenger facilities, improved information and ticketing facilities and a safer and more secure waiting environment.

The consultation runs until 26th March and any comments received will be fed into the development of the proposals and designs. A formal planning application would then be submitted to Manchester City Council for approval.

Full details on the consultation can be found online at http://www.tfgm.com/wythenshawe/ whilst a number of public exhibitions will also take place.

All being well work would commence in early 2013 and the interchange would open in early 2015 with trams starting to operate in public service in summer 2016.
