Picture in Time: Tyne & Wear Metro 4014

Since opening in 1980 the Tyne and Wear Metro has featured one depot at South Gosforth which has been home to the whole fleet of 90 trains which operate the service across the network. In today’s look back at the Metro from years past that is where we are.

The main depot buildings at South Gosforth are seen in the background with one unit poking out of one of the roads of the depot whilst on the far right a shunter is also noted. But at the front of this images we see 4014 at the head of a double unit. The train still has a roller destination blind and the units seem to have just come out of depot.
