Problems for Metrolink after damaged pantograph

Manchester Metrolink services on the Bury line were delayed on Wednesday 19th December after a tram suffered a damaged pantograph. The tram involved was 3010 with the damaged pantograph having to be removed at at Shudehill with the power needing to be isolated for this to happen.

At this stage it isn’t known what caused the damage to the pantograph but it wasn’t possible to conduct repairs on site and so it had to be removed to prevent any further damage to the overhead. Engineers from Metrolink were noted on site removing the pantograph once the power had been isolated before the tram could be recovered back to the depot. The incident happened during the morning and prevented any trams running on 1CC whilst it was solved with diversions via 2CC instead (affecting Bury-Piccadilly, Bury-Altrincham and Victoria-Airport services).

A video of the pantograph being removed can be viewed on You Tube.
