September Review – Isle of Man: No. 25 – The MER meets the SMR

Happy Christmas everyone! It may be Christmas Day but that doesn’t mean the updates stop! In the first of our return to September photographic series of the day we head to Laxey Station for some views of the Manx Electric Railway meeting the Snaefell Mountain Railway. And we’ll be back later today after you’ve had your turkey and the Queen’s Speech!

Transport interchange – Victorian style! Any passengers from Douglas wishing to go up Snaefell have a very easy exchange between trams as its off one and straight onto the other. This 5th September view show MER 20 having just arrived with an evening service as passengers transfer to SMR 5 for a trip to the Summit restaurant and the special evening diner.

20 again features in this image but this time it is towards Douglas with trailer 61 for company. Crossbench 33 is also seen creeping up behind. The Snaefell Mountain Railway is represented by no. 1.

On 7th September and as Ratchet Car 14 pauses heading for Ramsey Snaefell Mountain Railway 5 waits on the far side for its next trip to the Summit. (All Photographs by Gareth Prior)
