‘Princess Alice’ appeal goes online!

Following a number of requests, the Fylde Tramway Society have today launched an online platform to raise money for its recently announced ‘Princess Alice’ 706 Restoration Appeal. Fans of this iconic Blackpool tram can now donate towards the appeal at https://www.gofundme.com/039princess-alice039-706-appeal

As announced previously, the FTS is raising money to support a major overhaul of 706, which has been stored out of service since November 2015. The total work is expected to cost £50,000 including £10,000 for a new underframe to replace the 1934 original. It is intended that the overhaul – which should take about two years to complete – will enable the tram to return to service in 2021, the FTS’ 50th anniversary year.

The initial appeal for funds using more traditional methods has already raised over £3,000 which is a most encouraging start, and hopefully now that it is easier than ever to contribute financially, more people will be encouraged to do so. Don’t forget that anyone who donates £100 or more will also be able to receive some special goodies, including a certificate acknowledging your donation, and a souvenir booklet celebrating the history of this very special tram.

Other ideas to promote the appeal to a wider audience and raise more money will continue to be explored so that the Society has the best possible chance of raising the most money possible, and it is hoped that 706 will be available for display in the near future to help publicise its plight and the need for donations.
