Rail replacement works to return in Sheffield

After a gap of three years the major rail replacement project on Stagecoach Supertram will resume in May with work continuing through until September. The work will be completed in five stages with all three routes being affected at some point during the nearly four month period.

Volker Rail have been appointed to undertake the work following on from their experience in the previous phases of work.

The work will take place as follows:

Hillsborough to Middlewood – 26th May until 15th June

Birley Lane to Halfway – 23rd June to 8th August

Gleadless Townend to Herdings Park – 10th August to 19th August

Gleadless Townend to Halfway and Gleadless Townend to Herdings Park – 25th August to 2nd September and 8th & 9th September

Dontesk Way to Halfway – 10th September 14th September

Throughout the work – which will see track laid for the opening of the system in the mid-1990s replaced – dedicated tram replacement buses will be in operation.
