Metrolink Service Performance Update

The latest service performance statistics on the Manchester Metrolink system have been released on the TfGM Committee website – http://www.transportforgreatermanchestercommittee.gov.uk/downloads/file/4456/item_05_metrolink_performance.
This latest report only looks at the one period and that is period 4 between Monday 23rd July and Sunday 19th August 2012.

Performance

The performance as measured by Operated Mileage remained at 98.84% in period 4 – which was the exact same figure as had been achieved in the previous period. 53% of the total miles lost was because of vehicle reliability.

Major Incidents

There were just two major incidents in this period (the definition of a major incident in this respect is something which causes delays of at least 30 minutes).

27th July 2012: The track circuit at Cornbrook junction failed at 0828 which caused delays to trams running on the Altrincham and South Manchester lines. Trams on these lines were suspended from 0835 with all services from Eccles, MediaCityUK and Oldham running into Piccadilly.  The fault was repaired at 0915 and normal services were resumed.

3rd August 2012: The Oldham line had to be suspended after a driver passed a signal near Newton Heath and Moston without authority. The control room were unable to remotely
reset it which caused this suspension from 0844. Exactly one hour later trams resumed fully on the Oldham line.

Trams Out of Service

2006: This was the only tram to be out of service during the period. It was taken out of service on 30th July and returned to service on 7th September to allow attention under the Special Project Modification Programme. This was the last vehicle to undergo this work as no other T68s will be attended to as they are all due to be withdrawn by 2014.

Complaints

494 complaints were received in period 4 (down from 707 in period 3). Service disruptions accounted for 67% of the total complaints. Meanwhile there were five commendations received.
