Douglas 45 moves to the MER

Douglas 45 has become the latest of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway fleet to be selected for a major overhaul. Last week the tram left its normal home and was moved by road to the Manx Electric Railway’s Derby Castle premises for work to begin on its rebuild.

45 was only treated to a new green livery earlier this year with new advertising for the 2017 season, and it remains to be seen whether or not this unique colour scheme will be retained. Stripping of the car has already commenced. Meanwhile, the overhaul of car 36 is now virtually complete and it is expected to be transported back to Strathallan in the near future, ready to return to service when it is required again. For now, the two trams are standing side by side in a setting rather unfamiliar to both cars.
