In Pictures: First Purple Tram Friday at Crich

Friday 11th August saw the very first Purple Tram Friday at Crich with Blackpool Jubilee 762 in service as part of a standard three tram service. 762 carries an all over advert for Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach and is a popular tram with many children thanks to the numerous images of cartoon characters such as Spongebob Squarepants contained on the ad. In order to try and tap into this market these Purple Tram Fridays have been advertised so those who want to see 762 in action can plan their visit accordingly.

To many Chesterfield 7 is the definition of a traditional tram and it too was in service on 11th August showing the development of trams over the years. 7 is passing The Red Lion with several other vintage vehicles parked by the roadside.

And here is the chance for comparison as 7 passes 762 at Stephenson Place.

We will probably never know whether the visitors queuing to join 762 at Town End would have visited if 762 hadn’t been advertised as running but there is a healthy number here waiting to board the tram including many family groups.

And then 762 heads past The Red Lion. If you compare this image with the previous you can see the major difference in colours on the destination blind showing which end tends to face the sun more! (All Photographs by Keith Chadbourne)
