Christmas and New Year services 2016-17

This is your complete one-stop guide to services being operated on all tram and light rail networks in the British Isles over the Christmas and New Year period 2016-17. The differences in services being offered is plain to see from the example of Nottingham Express Transit who provide a service until late on Christmas Eve to the opposite end of the spectrum where once again Blackpool has no trams not only on Christmas Day but also on Boxing Day and New Years Day. Blackpool Tramway

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Saturday service with last tram from Starr Gate at 2015 and from Fleetwood Ferry at 2115

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th December (Boxing Day) – NO SERVICE

Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th December – Normal service

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service with last tram from Starr Gate at 2015 and from Fleetwood Ferry at 2115

Sunday 1st January 2017 (New Year’s Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 2nd January 2017 – Saturday service

Docklands Light Railway

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Early finish with last services around 2250.

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Every 10 minutes.

Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th December – Saturday service

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Services run throughout the night

Sunday 1st January 2017 (New Year’s Day) – Overnight service until 1000 then Sunday service

Monday 2nd January 2017 – Saturday service

Edinburgh Trams

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Saturday service until 2100. Last full route tram from York Place to Edinburgh Airport at 2008, last full route tram from Edinburgh Airport to York Place at 2055. Later departures from York Place will terminate at Edinburgh Gateway.

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th (Boxing Day) & Tuesday 27th December – Saturday service

Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th December – Weekday service. From 1800 on Friday trams will terminate at West End Princes Street.

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Normal Saturday service until normal last tram times between Edinburgh Airport and West End Princes Street. Then from midnight until 0500 free trams will run from West End Princes Street to Edinburgh Airport.

Sunday 1st January 2017 (New Year’s Day) – Normal Sunday service with trams running full route to York Place from 1000.

Monday 2nd January 2017 – Saturday service

Tuesday 3rd January 2017 – Normal weekday service

London Tramlink

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Less frequent service after 1800 but last trams will be at usual times

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th December (Boxing Day) & Tuesday 27th December – Sunday service with weekday start and finish times. No line 4 service.

Wednesday 28th December to Friday 30th December – Saturday service with weekday start and finish times

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Services run throughout the night

Sunday 1st January 2016 (New Year’s Day) – Normal service with no Line 4

Monday 2nd January 2016 – Sunday service with no Line 4

Luas

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Last tram at 2000

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Sunday service from 0900

Tuesday 27th December – Sunday service

Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th December – Saturday service

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service plus Night Luas service

Sunday 1st (New Year’s Day) & Monday 2nd January 2017 – Sunday service

Manchester Metrolink

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal Saturday service with last trams departing the City at approximately 2100

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th December (Boxing Day)  – Sunday service with extra services for Manchester United match

Tuesday 27th December – Sunday service

Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th December – Normal service

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday service with extra trams for Manchester United match. Last trams leaving Manchester City Centre at approximately 0100

Sunday 1st January 2017 (New Year’s Day) – Sunday service

Monday 2nd January 2017 – Sunday service with extra trams for Manchester City match

Midland Metro

Saturday 24th December (Christmas Eve) – Normal Saturday service

Sunday 25th December (Christmas Day) – NO SERVICE

Monday 26th (Boxing Day) & Tuesday 27th December – Enhanced Sunday service with trams every 10 minutes between 0800 to 1800 with a 15 minute service until 2300.

Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th December – Normal weekday service

Saturday 31st December – Normal Saturday service

Sunday 1st January 2017 (New Year’s Day) – Sunday service

Monday 2nd January 2017 – Enhanced Sunday service with trams every 10 minutes between 0800 to 1800 with a 15 minute service until 2300.

Nottingham Express Transit

Monday 26th December (Boxing Day) – Special service between 0600 and 2030 from Meadowhall to Halfway/Middlewood. No service to Herdings Park or Malin Bridge

Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th December – Saturday service

Saturday 31st December (New Year’s Eve) – Saturday timetable with early finish (last services start to run from approximately 1800)

    So once again no Blackpool service on New Years Day. A modern system but not a modern service.

    Clearly some operators are helping to cater for New Year’s Eve traffic whilst others are abandoning it as a nuisance.
